Well, they all were certainly very obedient – even the dogs – as residents were joined by relatives, friends and staff for another summer highlight event in Pelham’s beautiful garden. The Great Hot Dog Party combined a blistering barbecue with a top-class dog show and great live music memories.

Local musician Gary Dean kicked off the show with covers of songs old and (relatively) new, while chicken, burgers and sausages (with vege options, of course) sizzled on the barbecue.

We had set up a show-ring for the hottest dog show in town, especially as the weather was so kind. Four categories were hotly contested – Prettiest Bitch, Handsomest Dog, Most Obedient Dog and the Fastest Sausage-eating Dog were chosen to go through to the Best in Show Champion. They were judged by local chart-topping author Kerry Barnes and her partner Lee, whose critical eye was honed by his work at the Last Chance Animal Rescue in New Romney.

And our own Activities Co-ordinator, Lisa Westhoff (aka Vintage Ruby) took over the microphone from Gary for another fine selection of wonderful songs.

As our pictures show, it was another great fun day in the sun and one that will live long in the memory. We look forward to another great summer of events in Pelham’s garden in 2018!
